What the Full Moon Means Spiritually

What the full moon actually means

People feel full moons. They sleep badly, they get tearful, old things surface, arguments that were buried come up sideways. And then they look for something to blame.

The moon is not doing something to you. It is showing you something that was already there.

The cycle has two halves 🌑🌕

A new moon plants. A full moon reveals what grew.

Everything you seeded, consciously or not, has had a fortnight in the dark. The full moon is the light coming on.

That is why it can feel confronting. Nothing new arrived. You are just seeing it now.

Why release is the theme 🍃

Because once a thing has bloomed, the only honest options are to keep it or finish it, and most of what surfaces at a full moon is asking to be finished.

Not dramatically. Usually quietly. A conversation you stop having. A hope you put down. A pattern you decline to repeat.

The sign it falls in matters 🐏

A full moon always carries the character of the sign it lands in.

A full moon in Aries, for instance, sits in the first house, and the first house is you. Identity. Who you are before anybody else got an opinion about it. So that one asks you to release something about who you have been agreeing to be.

Feeling it more than usual is not a problem 🤍

Emotions running close to the surface around a full moon is not a malfunction. It is the light being on.

Feel it, name it, move it, release it. That sequence, in that order. And do not make a permanent decision on a temporary wave.

The fortnight in between 🌗

A new moon plants and a full moon reveals, and the two weeks between them are the part nobody talks about.

That is when the work happens invisibly, and it is also when people give up, because nothing appears to be occurring. Nothing appearing to occur is exactly what a seed does.

Why the sign changes the flavour ♈

A full moon always carries the character of the sign it lands in, which is why some hit you harder than others.

A full moon in Aries sits in the first house, and the first house is you. Identity, before anybody else had an opinion about it. So that one asks what you are ready to stop agreeing to be.

An earth sign full moon tends to surface practical and material things. A water sign one surfaces feeling. You will notice, over a year, which ones are yours.

Why do I sleep badly on a full moon?

Plenty of people report it. Whatever the mechanism, treat it as information rather than a problem and do not make permanent decisions on a temporary wave.

Is a full moon a bad time?

No. It is a revealing time, and revealing can be uncomfortable without being bad.

Should I avoid big decisions?

I would avoid making them in the heat of it. Feel it, name it, move it, release it. Then decide.

Do I have to do a ritual?

No, though marking it helps. The practical version is what to do on a full moon.

What about eclipses?

An eclipse is a full or new moon with the volume turned up, and it tends to accelerate things rather than change the nature of them.

Pair it with 🔗

The practical side of all this is in the release ritual and the new moon wallet cleanse.

Read this alongside what to do on a new moon, because the two halves only make sense together.
