Burn a dollar, dance naked, sing the song
This is the equinox one, and it is exactly as ridiculous and exactly as serious as it sounds.
Take a one dollar bill. Burn it. Dance naked. And sing:
I love my money, and my money loves me.
It flows to me freely and abundantly, because
I love my money, and my money loves me.
Why a dollar 💵
Because it has to cost you something and it has to cost you almost nothing.
You are letting go of money on purpose, deliberately, at a moment when the year itself is turning over. A dollar is enough to feel it and small enough that nobody gets hurt.
Why the equinox ⚖️
The equinox is the hinge. Day and night in balance, the year tipping from one half into the other.
You are marking the turn rather than letting it pass you by, and you are marking it with your whole body instead of a thought.
Why naked, honestly 🔥
Because you cannot be self conscious and fully in it at the same time, and most money shame lives in exactly that self consciousness.
Nobody is watching. That is rather the point.
Common sense 🚫
Burn it safely, in a fireproof dish, outside if you can, and never leave a flame unattended. Do not burn anything larger than a single and do not do this anywhere you should not have an open flame.
And from one of my own: outside is lovely, but check your neighbours first.
When exactly ⚖️
Either equinox. March or September, spring or autumn, both are hinges and both work.
Do it on the day if you can. The evening of it is fine. The point is that you marked the turn rather than letting the year change without you.
What to do with the ash 🌿
Outside, into the ground. Same as everything else in this practice, and never down a drain.
If you want words for it, the ones I use at the full moon fit here too. I give it to the ground. I give it to the earth. I give it to God.
Is burning money legal?
Destroying small amounts of your own currency is not something anybody is coming after you for, but I am not your lawyer. One single, and only ever your own.
Can I do it clothed?
Of course you can. Naked is about dropping the self consciousness, and if being cold and anxious about the window is the thing occupying you, that defeats it. Do it in a dressing gown and sing louder.
Do I have to dance?
Yes. Standing still and saying it is not the same, and the whole reason this one works is that it gets you out of your head and into your body.
What if I do not have a dollar?
The smallest note you have, or a coin held in your hand while you sing instead of burned. Never burn money you actually need.
