A prosperity simmer pot is kitchen witch work
Water in a pot on the stove, things in the water, low heat, let the house fill up with it. That is it.
Any time, day or night. There is no correct hour for this one. What matters is that you stay with the season.
Cinnamon is the root 🧡
Whatever else goes in, cinnamon goes in. Every time, no exceptions.
Stick or powder, it genuinely does not matter. Use what you have.
Autumn and winter 🍂
Go to the roots and the dark fruit. Persimmon. Cloves. Star anise, or anise, or anything with that liquorice note. Plums.
And oranges. Always oranges. Oranges are abundance, and so are lemons. Those two never leave the list whatever the season.
Spring and summer 🌿
Turn it fresh and flowery. Lemon. Thyme. Basil. Anything green and bright rather than dark and spiced.
Same pot, same idea, different half of the year.
The liquid ✨
Plain water is completely fine. Some people use rose water. Honey is a lovely thing to stir in, and it is one of my favourites.
This is kitchen witch work, which means it is whatever you actually have in the cupboard. Do not go shopping for a simmer pot. Open the cupboard and look.
Keep an eye on it 🔥
Low heat, topped up with water, and never left alone on the stove. That is the only rule I will be firm about.
A starting recipe 🍊
If you want something to follow the first time, this is what I would put on for autumn.
A small pot, two thirds full of water. One orange, sliced. Two cinnamon sticks, or a good spoonful of ground. A scatter of whole cloves. Two or three star anise. Low heat, lid off, topped up whenever it drops.
For spring, swap all of that out: lemon slices, a few sprigs of thyme, a handful of basil. Cinnamon still goes in, because cinnamon always goes in.
Why oranges and lemons 🍋
Both are abundance, in every tradition I have ever come across, and neither is seasonal in the way the spices are. They earn their place on the list all year round.
If you have one piece of citrus and some cinnamon, you have a simmer pot. Everything after that is decoration.
How long do I leave it on?
An hour or two is plenty. Long enough that the house smells of it, and never once you are going out or going to bed.
Can I reuse it?
Yes, for a day or two. Keep it in the fridge and top it back up with fresh water. Once it turns cloudy or smells tired, it is done.
What do I do with it after?
Outside. Same rule as everything else, and never down the drain. If you want the reasoning, it is in the full moon piece.
Can I use essential oils instead?
I would not. This is kitchen work and it wants real things you could eat.
Does the day matter?
No. Any time, day or night. Unlike the cinnamon doorway ritual, this one is not tied to the calendar.
Pair it with 🔗
A simmer pot goes beautifully with a day of moving seven to nine things, because you are stirring the house in two ways at once.
