This is the year the next nine are built on
Something ended last year, whether you chose it or not. This year is the empty ground after that, and what you put in it is what you will be living inside until the next 9.
A 1 personal year is the opening of a cycle. It tends to feel exposed rather than exciting, because beginnings are mostly uncertainty with good lighting on them.
Whatever you start this year, you are going to be living with for nine years. Choose on purpose.
How to work out your personal year 🔢
Your personal year runs birthday to birthday, not January to January. Until your birthday lands you are still inside last year’s cycle, so someone born in November is still in their previous personal year all the way through to that November. Take your birth month, your birth day and the year your current cycle began, add every digit together, then reduce, holding 11, 22 and 33. Someone born on January 8 whose cycle began in 2026 adds 1 + 8 + 2+0+2+6, which is 19, then 1+9 is 10, and 1+0 is 1. Note that the month is its own number, so July is 7 rather than 07.
What this year is asking of you
Start it. The thing you have been describing to people for two years. This is the year where beginning it costs you the least and returns the most.
It is also asking you to be more separate than usual. A 1 year favours the decision you made alone over the one made by committee.
What not to do this year
Do not wait for conditions to be right. In a 1 year the conditions are never going to feel right, because you are standing on new ground and new ground always feels thin.
Do not start nine things. The 1 year is generous with energy and it will happily let you scatter it across everything, and then you arrive at your 2 year with nine half-built things and no partnership to hand any of them to.
How to tell it is working
You will feel slightly alone and slightly ahead of everyone. That combination is the signature of a 1 year going correctly.
You should also be able to name the thing. If you cannot say in one sentence what you started this year, you have not started it yet.

Where this sits in the nine year cycle 🔄
Personal years run in a cycle of nine. A 1 year plants, the middle years grow and complicate the thing, and a 9 year clears it out so the next 1 has somewhere to land.
This is why fighting your year rarely works. Trying to launch in a 9 or rest in a 1 is possible, it is just uphill the entire way. The number does not decide what happens to you. It tells you which way the current is going.
What does a personal year 1 mean?
A personal year is the cycle you are in right now, and it changes every year on your birthday. A 1 year is about beginnings, independence and leading. What it asks of you is real, and the trap is being alone with a decision nobody else will make for you.
How do I calculate my personal year?
Add your birth day and birth month to the current year, then reduce. So born 14 March, in 2026: 1+4+3+2+0+2+6 = 18, then 1+8 = 9. You are in a 9 year.
When does my personal year change?
On your birthday, not on 1 January. That is the single most common mistake in numerology and it throws the whole reading out by months.
What should I actually do in a 1 year?
Work with it rather than against it. A 1 year rewards beginnings, independence and leading and punishes forcing the opposite. Fighting your own year is the most tiring thing you can do with twelve months.
Is a 1 year a good year?
Every year in the cycle is useful and none of them is comfortable the whole way through. A 1 year is only a bad year if you spend it trying to live somebody else's.
